Electric dipole response and neutron equation of state (B04)

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 279384907

Project Description

The goal of project B04 is to provide a systematic understanding of the electric dipole strength and polarizability in nuclei through a combined experimental and theoretical investigation to constrain the nuclear equation of state. The experimental focus will be on using nuclear photoabsorption techniques to determine electric dipole strength distributions from light to heavy nuclei using the NEPTUN facility at the S-DALINAC. This will be supported through ab initio coupled-cluster calculations based on chiral effective field theory interactions and modern uncertainty quantification tools. The combined experimental-theoretical analysis will provide constraints on the neutron skin thickness and the equation of state near saturation density.
