Precision structure of light nuclei (A01)

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 279384907

Project Description

Project A01 provides precision data on electromagnetic observables of light nuclei to test ab initio calculations based on chiral effective field theory. Key experiments include measurements of M1 transition strengths in 6Li, 10B, and 14N that explore the role of two-body currents, as well as electron scattering reactions off 12C at the S-DALINAC to probe cluster structures. We will perform laser spectroscopy on several charge states of 10B and 11B at the COALA beamline. This will provide benchmarks for atomic theory and will be used to determine charge radii differences with unprecedented accuracy. The charge radius of the proton-halo candidate 8B will be determined for the first time at Argonne National Laboratory, USA.
