Subject Area Political Science
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 285674817

The Specialized Information Service Political Science – Pollux www.pollux-fid.de has been online since January 2018. It provides direct access to more than 9 million documents. Ist comprehensive range of political science-related resources and the easy-to-use access provided by POLLUX have been welcomed by the political science community. This follow-up proposal focuses on optimising the search space tailored to the needs of political scientists by expanding the scope of information resources and integrating a high proportion of Open Access publications. In order to make these comprehensive digital and printed information resources easily accessible, POLLUX will continue to enhance ist core search engine, to increase the quantity and quality of the metadata and to create new services. POLLUX will expand ist support for research data management in political science. This concerns both extended access to qualitative and quantitative social science research data within the search space and the easy provision of research data for registered POLLUX users. POLLUX will contribute to the open-access transformation of the traditional publication market in political science in order to improve the scientific communication while improving free and unrestricted access to up-to-date content. In addition, POLLUX will provide a dedicated Open Access publication infrastructure to promote the worldwide, unrestricted visibility of the political science research in Germany. The follow-up proposal will cover the following areas: 1) Contents: Expansion and content profiling of the search space with literature and specialist information, in particular extension of the metadata pool with evidence from neighbouring disciplines, licensing of relevant content. 2) Information services and infrastructure: Optimization of search and access procedures, adaptation of workflows, improvement of alerts, establishment of a Pollux helpdesk, integration of primary sources/text corpora and blogs including metadata models for indexing, offer for reuse of IT infrastructure and IT services for other specialist information services. 3) Open Science: Promotion and support of Open Access, expansion of research data management, especially in the field of qualitative research data (Qualiservice becomes new co-applicant) 4) Communication and public relations: Getting involved with the professional community, online support in the context of research, participation in conferences and specialist congresses (digital formats & face-to-face events), creation of webinars and video tutorials, user surveys on satisfaction and continuous evaluation of content and services.
