Memory mechanisms of undernutrition in the gut ecosystem (C02)

Subject Area Gastroenterology
Immunology
Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 261376515

Project Description

The goal of project C2 is to understand the long-lasting (memory) effects produced by undernutrition on the physiological host-microbial interplay in two different model organisms: Drosophila and mouse. Building on the accumulated findings, the project will develop a mechanistic framework for interventions to ameliorate the sustained effects of severe protein energy malnutrition episodes on organismal health, including targeted manipulation of the microbiota and/or metabolic processes.
