The 500 MHz NMR spectrometer in the institute of organic chemistry (OCI) is equipped with a DPX console and TXI cryo-probe. This instrument is relied upon by groups working with natural products and total synthesis where high sensitivity and the ability to run complex modern experiments is crucial. As the DPX console of the spectrometer is no longer state of the art (purchased 1989), it is very complicated to run modern NMR experiments where, for instance, shape pulses play a crucial role as the console is not capable of generating clean pulse shapes. Analysis of natural products and advanced total synthesis require modern NMR experiments. In addition, it is getting difficult to get spare parts for the DPX console when replacements are needed. That led to increased down-times of the spectrometer hampering the research of the scientific groups in the institutes who depend on the spectrometer with its increased sensitivity. Especially all research groups working on total synthesis and biosynthesis rely on that spectrometer. Therefore replacement of the console is necessary, while the magnet and cryo-probe of the NMR spectrometer should be conserved.
