Subject Area

Term
from 2016 to 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281597962
The research training group focuses on the connection between the affirmation needs of communities and the appropriation of cultural heritage, which is mobilized for historical and identity politics. It is about the critical historicization of the overall concept of heritage-based identity constructions in national and other inclusive/exclusive social and political groups. With the second funding period, we would like to focus more strongly on the conditions, conditionalities and effects of heritage. Inheritance and the formulation of identity attributions take place in a social, political and cultural context that is in permanent interaction with the observable phenomena of material transmission and, if applicable, preserving renewal. This applies to buildings as well as to other artefacts, urban and landscape spaces. The aim of the research group is to further develop interdisciplinary, critical cultural heritage research and approaches to cultural heritage theories that combine a democratic interpretation of heritage with the detailed observation and interpretation of the form and material nature of the respective objects.
