Frames in morphophonology: Paradigms as frames (D05)

Subject Area General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
Term from 2015 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 192776181

Project Description

Project D05 deals with the representation of phonological relations in and across paradigms. Paradigms are represented as frames. Paradigmatically conditioned phonology is modeled as relations among values of different attributes and paradigmatically conditioned phonetics is modeled as constraints on these values. Relations across paradigms are the results of unification of frames on the basis of having the same constraints. The hypotheses of D05 will be experimentally tested based on phonetic and phonological properties of paradigms a) with voicing and vowel alternations and their distribution in the lexicon in German and b) with transparent vowels in vowel harmony and their distribution in the lexicon in Hungarian.
