The present proposal aims at continuing the previous project of critical edition and translation of the secular universal chronicle (Chronography) by the great Syrian polymath Grigorios Barhebraeus (1225/6-1286) with its anonymous Continuations. We apply for two more years. The additional time is needed because of the complicated transmission of the text which was studied systematically for the first time in the first phase of this project. This long-awaited new critical edition will replace the prints of the 19th century, document the analysis of language and transmission of the text and contribute to critical text editing of Medieval Syriac texts.
