The subject of this research project is the deliberative concept of ought, i.e. the concept of ought that figures in the guiding question of practical deliberation - What ought I to do? - and in judgements of the form: All things considered, I ought to do X, that conclude such deliberation. The project aims to systematically examine fundamental principles of the deliberative ought in their own right, where fundamental principles are here understood as principles that are supposed to be valid independently of any substantial normative theory. Furthermore, it will be shown that and how investigation into such principles has important implications for core questions of practical philosophy and the theory of normativity.
