The marine ice sheet instability is particularly important for the Antarctic contribution to future sea-level rise. Past investigations of this instability have focussed on the buttressing role of the ice shelves downstream of the ice sheet. It is however likely that the bed topography on which the ice sheet rests has a fundamental role for the evolution of the ice sheet. Here we investigate this role systematically with the Parallel Ice Sheet Model.
