Investigation of the Ni-effect in Co-Re-Cr high temperature alloys
Subject Area
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273571371
It is the objective of this research proposal to investigate the effect of nickel on microstructure, mechanical properties and oxidation behavior of Co-Re-Cr high temperature alloys. This is based on preliminary studies of the applicants showing that nickel (i) has a beneficial effect on the morphology of the sigma-phase, (ii) leads to the formation of a hcp/fcc-microstructure and (iii) assists in the formation of a protective Cr2O3-scale. These effects potentially allow to further improve the oxidation resistance and mechanical behavior of this novel class of high temperature alloys. However, the relevant mechanisms are currently unexplored. Thus, the objective here is to clarify the role of nickel with the underlying metallurgical principles in order to further advance the development of Co-Re-Cr alloys. Close cooperation between Universität Siegen and TU Braunschweig is forseen to tackle the task in its entirety.
