Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
from 2002 to 2007
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273519
Ten groups belonging to the faculties of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Agriculture and Food Sciences are joined in this new research training group to cooperate on interdisciplinary aspects of natural antioxidants and their effects in plants, food, animals and humans. By combining the knowledge of groups working on plant molecular biology and plant breeding with knowledge of groups working on nutrition, physiology and medicine, in Kiel outstanding possibilities for integrative research on antioxidants will be established.Doctoral students will achieve a broader understanding of the field by an intensive training in biochemistry, molecular biology, food technology, animal and human nutrition and medicine. Besides special lectures and courses in the different faculties, courses in plant breeding companies, pharmaceutical and nutritional industry are part of the interdisciplinary study programme. Visiting guest scientists programmes and excursions to Scandinavian universities will further contribute to the training of the students.
