GRK 748:  Incentives, Information, Decision and Allocation

Subject Area Economics
Term from 2001 to 2010
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273373

The research training group provides training in selected areas of economics. The aim is to enable participants to do research at an internationally competitive level. The focus lies on the theoretical and empirical analysis of micro- and macroeconomic issues under uncertainty, incomplete information, and strategic interdependencies. Topics covered involve international economics, capital markets, financial institutions and corporate finance, industrial economics, and institutional economics. At a theoretical level, methods of analysis are taken from general equilibrium theory, game theory, the economics of information, individual and collective decision theory, and behavioral finance. Empirical research involves, for example, experiments as well as microeconometric and time series analyses of savings or labor supply decisions. Formal teaching comprises the participation in a Ph.D. Program at the Center for Doctoral Studies in Economics and Management (CDSEM) for one year and a half. During this stage, compulsory and optional graduate courses provide a firm grounding in methods and a thorough familiarization with current research questions. Throughout the dissertation stage, students have ample opportunities to present their research in workshops for feedback from other participants and faculty. Mannheim is a member of the European Network for Training in Economic Research (ENTER) linking seven major European universities. Students have the opportunity to spend part of their studies abroad, especially at one of the partner universities so as to benefit from courses offered as well as supervision there.
