GRK 705:  Characterization of Pathophysiological Animal Models ? Functional and Genetic Analyses

Subject Area Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine
Term from 2001 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273293

Experimental animal models are indispensable for studying the etiology of certain human diseases. Derived from spontaneous mutations or produced by genetic engineering animal models allow to discriminate genetic and environmental factors underlaying various diseases. The research training group targeted to link science of basic research to medical science. For this the Hannover area with expertise and ongoing cooperations in various fields of medical and veterinary research offers an interdisciplinary education. The students receive a fundamental scientific training in comparative medicine and topics relevant of biomedical laboratory animal science. The joint training program of collegiates with differential background and training syllabus will be a characteristic feature. While students of medicine or veterinary medicine amplify their knowledge in biomedical basic and their skills in modern analytic methods, biologists and biochemists are trained in biomedical basic science and pathobiology. This interdisciplinary concept will further qualify motivated and talented students.
