The research training group "Biomedical Drug Research" at the University of Konstanz represents a novel organisation form of graduate teaching apart from traditional structures that links academic and industrial research. Faculty members from the research-oriented mid-sized pharmaceutical company Byk Gulden Lomberg GmbH, Konstanz, teach 16 graduate students together with university professors. The aim is to provide a direct access to most recent techniques in biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology and toxicology for biologists, biochemists, chemists amd medical interns. The research programme with emphasis on de- and regeneration of tissue, vascular dysfunction, acute and chronic inflammation, pulmonary dysfunction and asthma, and infection disease integrates the mutual industrial and academic interests.
