GRK 647: Mathematical and Engineering Science Methods for Secure Data Transmission and Information Transfer
Subject Area
Mathematics
Term
from 2000 to 2006
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273185
With an increasing global interaction of computer networks, secure data transmission and information transfer within electronic communication has become mandatory. The exposure of data security to vandalism, manipulation, falsification and unlawful use continues to be a serious problem. The goal of the research training group is to provide theoretical andpractical knowledge in research and teaching necessary for the development of security systems for the protection of digital datawithin open communication networks. The development of modern cryptography, coding theory and moregenerally the mathematical-logical theory of information science hasresulted in a strong interaction between different disciplines such asmathematics, computer science and engineering science.A rapid transfer of knowledge between the relevant research units of the universities and users within the industry is of great significance for the security of data within computer networks. Here, interested companies range from mid-size firms (e.g. software developers) to large-size enterprises in communication industry. One of the crucial aims of the college is to cooperate with them.
