GRK 609: Linguistic Representations and their Interpretation
Subject Area
Linguistics
Term
from 2000 to 2009
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273025
Many current theories of human language hold that linguistic knowledge and its application in production and perception involve a number of distinct, but inter-linked levels of representation. Thereby it is usually assumed that the core areas of theoretical linguistics - Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax and Semantics - are different levels of representation. The projects carried out within the frame of the research training group all refer to questions of representation: how is the representation of words, phrases, sentences and discourse structured? What is the meaning of these representations? - a theoretical language appropriate for the description of representations should be semantically well-defined and explicate the contents of the proposed representations';' how do representations relate to one another and how do they interface with one another via linguistic processing mechanisms?
