GRK 358:  Optical Measuring Techniques in Engineering

Subject Area Production Technology
Mechanics and Constructive Mechanical Engineering
Term from 1998 to 2004
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 272051

Project Description

The aim of this research training group is to provide graduate engineers and physicists a comprehensive education in the fundamentals of optical measuring techniques, especially laser methods. The postgraduates are familiarized with the most important optical measuring techniques in engineering. To enhance the interdisciplinary cooperation workshops in the laboratories and special graduate seminars are organized in addition to the usual lectures of invited speakers. With these skills, current problems in engineering are solved in an interdisciplinary effort. With the completion of their thesis the postgraduates proof their ability to solve scientific problems in engineering using optical measuring techniques. The education program intends to promote the transfer of advanced optical measuring techniques from the University to industrial applications and to accelerate the implementation of these methods in industry. The wide range of education is reflected by research topics in the field of chemical engineering, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
