GRK 306: Molecular Analysis of Developmental Processes
Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
from 1997 to 2005
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 271733
The research training group "Molecular Analysis of Developmental Processes" includes Institutes of the University of Cologne (Botanical Institute, Institute for Biochemistry, Institute for Developmental Biology) and Departments of the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIZ). Highly qualified graduate students are trained in the fields of plant molecular biology and biochemistry, plant physiology, developmental biology and plant genetics. Arabidopsis thaliana and Zea mays are the main, but not the only, model systems studied. The aim of the research training group is to make available the knowledge on different and interdisciplinary aspects of molecular biology of plants. The curriculum comprises seminars (e.g. progress report meetings every two weeks), lectures, courses and symposia, organized by the graduate students. Funding that allows students to attend major national or international conferences and meetings as well as visits of other laboratories is also provided by the program.
