GRK 259:
Mitigation Strategies for the Emission of Greenhouse Gases and Environmentally Toxic Agents from Agriculture and Land Use
Subject Area
Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine
Term
from 1996 to 2004
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 271363
In Article 2 of the Kyoto Protocol the signing nations committed themselves to the greenhouse gases on a "harmless level" and thus protect humans, agriculture, and ecosystems from damage. According to this obligation, sources of greenhouse gases are studied and their emissions are quantified. The development of mitigation strategies is based on current knowledge about causes and interactions between the emitters. The objective of the research training group is the development of methods quantify, model and economically assess the formation processes and emissions of greenhouse gases and environmentally toxic agents from agriculture and land use. Special emphasis is put on the practicability of mitigation strategies.
