Enhanced magneto-optics in plasmonic structures (C05)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 249492093

Project Description

This project studies the spin-related phenomena in hybrid semiconductor plasmonic structures. The coupling between circularly polarized excitons in a magnetic quantum well and photonic spin fluxes at the metal-semiconductor interface should lead to a significant enhancement of directional magneto-optical effects and the realization of novel approaches for spin control in semiconductors. We will optimize the strength of static and dynamic magneto-optical effects in reflection and emission. Particular effort will be focused on the manifestation of inverse magneto-optical effects. We will further work on realizing specially designed guiding structures to establish a spatially resolved control over the directionality of surface plasmon polaritons and the spin orientation of excitons and magnetic ions in semiconductor quantum wells.
