The subject of the research training group "Migration in Modern Europe", run by different disciplines of the social sciences, includes various aspects of migration, i.e. migration processes and migration behaviour';' migration and integration policies, forms and consequences of social inclusion or exclusion of migrants';' traditions, actual practices and rules of treatment of immigrants in different European countries. The research projects of the research training group address historical, actual and future developments and problems of migration and social integration in single European regions, member states and Europe as a whole. The research projects pay also major attention to the countries of origin of the immigrant population. The common focus of these projects are questions of ethnicity, social stratification, gender relations and cultural change. Related to this common focus the single research projects deal with problems of migration as a social process or with problems of social integration or with problems of political control and management of immigration processes and their social consequences.
