Star Formation and Feedback in Molecular Clouds (C05)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
from 2015 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 184018867
Project C5 studies the conditions and the impact of star formation in state-of-the-art, 3D MHD simulations with e.g. radiative transfer and a chemical network. In different galactic environments, we study the formation and collapse of self-consistently forming, turbulent and filamentary molecular clouds by means of novel galaxy zoom simulations. We investigate the impact of feedback of the forming massive stars, which triggers star formation, drives turbulence, and disperses the parental molecular clouds. In a further "deep-zoom” step we will disentangle the accretion of dense gas through the complex network of filaments onto cores and hubs where massive star formation proceeds.
