The aim of the project is to investigate the acid sphingomyelinase in physiological and pathological contexts. Besides the Niemann-Pick-Disease, the characterization of the pathophysiological role of this enzyme is within the main focus. An additional goal is the identification and characterization of novel mall molecule inhibitors of the acid sphingomyelinase.
