The aim of the presented project is the exploration of previously unknown medieval strata in the Muristan, the Christian quarter of Jerusalem. In particular, the venture focuses on:1. The Souk of the time of the crusaders (especially the shops on the west side of the Cardo).2. Buildings of merchants from Amalfi (11th century).3. Buildings in the area of the 11th century Forum. In the surrounding area was supposed to be a hospice for pilgrims approx. dating back to the time of Charlemagne.4. Previously unknown remains of the Muslim period. The special potential of this unique archaeological project is that an excavation is possible without haste (because of the absence of future construction) and without the need to refill the excavated area. Moreover, with up to 70 m2 the site is relatively large taking into account the conditions in the Old City of Jerusalem. Landowners, tenants and all the authorities know and support the project.
