The purpose of the project is to convert (by means of transcription resp. manual data input, not by photographic digitization) complex structured handwritten finding aids related to the archives of secular and ecclesiastical lords into digital data. The original finding aids of the various funds are written in 19.th-century German script and have been supplemented with various annotations over the years. Therefore, they are hard to understand and to decipher and of limited use due to the lack of registers. Final aim of the project is to assemble all the relevant archival data of these selected archival funds within the internet portal of the Archival administration of the state of Rhineland-Paiatinate and to connect it with other integrated regional and transregional archival internet portals such as the "Archivportal für den Südwesten" and the projected "Archivportal D". Once accomplished, this will facilitate the access to these data and help historians in their inquiries into the administrative, social, economic and cultural history of the territories concerned, especially into the history of the aristocracy and the transformation of medieval lordship into features of the modern state.
