Dimensional and shape accuracy for Laser Metal Deposition in additive Manufacturing (A11)

Subject Area Primary Shaping and Reshaping Technology, Additive Manufacturing
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236616214

Project Description

In powder-based laser metal deposition, dimensional and shape accuracy, as well as the resulting microstructure, are decisive for the quality of the component volume. In phases 1 and 2, process diagrams were created and process simulations were carried out to show the relationship between process parameters, geometry, microstructure, residual stresses and mechanical properties of the deposited volume. Based on the determined correlations between process and shape accuracy as well as material properties, the use of machine learning path planning algorithms to increase shape accuracy while maintaining at least the same mechanical properties will be tested in phase 3. Geometry deviations are compensated for by adaptive path planning (position and geometry of the individual tracks).
