Cellular restriction of HIV-1 by 90K and SERINC5 and their sensitivity to evasion through viral cell-to-cell spread (C08)

Subject Area Virology
Term from 2014 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 158989968

Project Description

The cellular proteins 90K and SERINC5 inhibit HIV-1 by reducing the infectivity of nascent particles through modulation of HIV-1 Env. The susceptibility of cell-associated virions, which spread through virological synapses, to restriction by these factors remains uninvestigated to date. This project proposal foresees the investigation of the role and impact of 90K and SERINC5 in the context of cell-to-cell transmission of HIV-1, and the elucidation of potential virus-mediated counteraction strategies directed against them.
