Methylglyoxal Metabolism and its Cellular Consequences (A04)

Subject Area Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Biochemistry
Clinical Neurology; Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology
Cell Biology
Term from 2014 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236360313

Project Description

The central aim of the A04 is to investigate the cellular effects of methylglyoxal (MG), in particularly the consequences from the nuclear accumulation of the MG-derived modification, MG-H1, and the resulting unresponsive or stunned cellular phenotype. Through the use of the different model organisms available within the consortium, this project seeks to determine whether MG-induced cellular stunning/paralysis is a new hallmark of cellular dysfunction, leading to alterations in tissue homeostasis as well as cell-to-cell interactions, thereby contributing to the pathogenesis of late diabetic complications.
DFG Programme Collaborative Research Centres
