Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 235221301
This project investigates intense storms in the atmosphere. Of particular interest is theorganization of small-scale processeson meso-scales and how it interacts with large-scale environments. The project combines and develops, where needed, methods of multiscale asymptotics and visual scientific data analysis to studyobservational and reanalysis data as well as computational simulations of specific idealized test cases with these techniques. For the third funding period, the project's focus shifts from the structure and evolution of tropical storms to mid-latitude phenomena, including storm fronts embedded in low-pressure systems and, jointly with projects A08 and A02, atmospheric blocking states.
