Project C03 is focused on developing hybrid modeling approaches for reaction systems with cascades of temporal, population and spatial scales. These models will be derived and analyzed on an abstract level using mathematical methods. As one application, we will consider the ligand-based activation, aggregation and organization kinetics of receptors on cell surfaces coupled to intra- and extra-cellular signaling cascades. Two models will be constructed, one spatio-temporal hybrid model oriented towards the signaling-induced receptor activation, and another model for large-scale membrane dynamics based on interacting-particle reaction dynamics (iPRD) simulations.
