Spinodal decomposition of polymer-solvent systems (C03)

Subject Area Mathematics
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 233630050

Project Description

We consider the phase separation of polymer solutions after a sudden quench. Crucial aspects are hydrodynamic momentum transport and the lack of time-scale separation between molecular relaxation and coarsening. In the third funding period of the project, we will focus on (a) the derivation of kinetic models for viscoelastic phase separation starting from micro- or mesoscopic descriptions, (b) the analysis and numerical simulation of kinetic models by both deterministic and stochastic approaches, and (c) the derivation of macroscopic models by further coarse-graining and their analysis and simulation.
