Coarse-graining frequency-dependent phenomena and memory in colloidal systems (A03)

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 233630050

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to develop mathematically well-founded numerical strategies for dynamic coarse-graining in situations where the separation of time scales is incomplete and memory effects are important. This entails the reconstruction of coarse-grained general Langevin equations (GLE) that include memory, their efficient simulation, and the application to colloidal dispersions at equilibrium and non-equilibrium. In the third funding period, we plan to focus on the role of external conservative potentials and on spatially inhomogeneous systems.
