My research on the emotional state of exclusion aims at linking emotional phenomena with structural power relations through an ethnographic analysis. New perspectives on emotions, such as shame, anger, fear, envy and love, as well as on less researched phenomena such as boredom, speechlessness and coolness, offer insights into the coping with exclusion as well as into the political dimension of emotions. My aim is to draw together observations on different emotions and affects in order to reveal "structures of feelings" and to formulate a pointed social critique.
