While base project 1 will provide a comprehensive methodological framework this project will facilitate the collection of household level data, including available secondary data and the organization and conduct of surveys among rural households, in three selected provinces in Thailand and Vietnam respectively. The surveys will generate a unique panel data set from repeated surveys of a total of 5,000 households. The database project will serve as the point of departure of the empirical analysis of vulnerability to poverty by base project 1 and the three special projects. Using a joint questionnaire information on the households socio-economic status, their resource base, various income generating activities, including on-farm, off-farm and non-farm enterprises and activities, a household s sources of finance, risk related factors and local and distant non-farm employment and income generating opportunities will be elicited. Also, other survey and panel data and relevant statistical data sets from other sources will be maintained in a central database. Another contribution will be to improve the survey methods in close cooperation with base project 1 develop a comprehensive, set of indicators for assessing vulnerability to poverty Shared access to this database will be administered through a web service specially established for the purpose.
