Project Details
Time resolved Raman spectroscopy system
Subject Area
Condensed Matter Physics
Term
Funded in 2014
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 252974514
The core expertise and interest of the research group are the dynamical processes in solids, a topic of high current international interest. The TIRERA (Time resolved Raman spectroscopy system) experi-ment is crucial to the mission of the group, and will enable the group to address key questions in the field concerning optically induced phenomena in matter, including symmetry and population statistics aspects. It will form one of the core experiments in the group in Cologne after the move of Prof. van Loosdrecht from Groningen to Cologne. TIRERA will open a new dynamic avenue to the research on advanced materials in Cologne, and will significantly strengthen Cologne’s position in correlated and complex matter. Currently there is no similar equipment available at the University of Cologne, and the TIRERA instrument will be complementary to the already existing expertise and equipment for struc-ture determination, thermodynamic and transport properties, and static spectroscopies within the II. Physikalische Institut. Furthermore it will form a new nucleus in the recently established excellence initiative ''Quantum matter and Materials''.
