The volume contains 38 of the 45 papers presented at the international conference „Qatna and the Networks of Bronze Age Globalism“, held in October 2009 on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition “Treasures of Ancient Syria – The Discovery of the Kingdom of Qatna” in Stuttgart. In addition, six more papers were included from researchers, who could not participate at the conference or who had not yet available their results at that time. In summary, all involved scientists and in particular also the young researches of the three teams from Germany, Italy and Syria working at Qatna contributed to this volume. This results in a complete picture of the modern research at Qatna. At no other place is such a complete overview of the results of archaeological investigations at Qatna available. It is also of great importance that the volume includes contributions of many international scholars, who are not part of the project at Qatna and who present their view on the materials from Qatna. They evaluate the importance of the new discoveries and data from Qatna and compare them to results from other sites of the same periods. This results in a first synthetic picture of the cultural development of Qatna and its region.
