Project Details
Innovative Ligands at Nanoparticles and at Surfaces (B15)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2014 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 104405829
The modification of surfaces and nanoparticles with innovative, tailor-made ligands is a highly active field of chemical research. Recent work by us and others revealed that nanoparticles modified with N-heterocyclic carbenes show cooperative interactions, in which the ligand and the nanoparticle surface influence each other and/or the interaction with a third component – e.g. a substrate or an analyte – is enhanced. In this project innovative N-heterocyclic carbene and carboxylate ligands are developed, which bind to nanoparticles and surfaces. The purpose of these novel nanomaterials is the improvement of catalytic performance, biological sensing and stability of structured surfaces. Moreover, cooperative systems of photoredox catalysts and upconversion nanoparticles will be investigated for IR light driven photoredox catalysis.
