The journal Bunron (文論 "Text and Theory") publishes articles focusing on philological issues within the field of Japanese Studies. By creating a forum for articles, reviews and conference reports in an easily accessible online journal current philological and literary research about Japanese literature will be bundled. The Bunron editors put emphasis on a theoretical approach to current literary issues. The journal is, however, not limited to contributions about canonical literary texts but will also be open for articles from contiguous disciplines like philosophy, history, cultural studies or linguistics which take a text based approach. To bring together different traditions of scientific writing, contributions can be handed in in German, Japanese, English and French. Multilingualism has always been essential for philological research, and a multilingual journal will enhance the interchange in the field of Japanese Literary Studies between the North American, Japan and Europe.
