Optische Bildgebungseinheit

Subject Area Medicine
Term Funded in 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 250085529

The Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy currently employs about 57 scientists, engineers, technologists and administrative personell. The focus of our research is imaging science and we are primarily active in all fields of biomedical science, including oncology, neurology, immunology, infectious diseases and cardiology as well as detector development for positron emission tomography (PET) and radiotracer development. For this field of research we utilize non-invasive molecular and functional imaging methods such as optical imaging, PET, magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) and computer tomography as well as the combination of those systems as multimodality imaging devices. A large part of our research depends on molecular imaging with fluorescence probes and bioluminescence imaging. We ask for a new optical imaging device as our current optical imaging scanner, which is already seven years old, reveals significant limitations in sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, options in image analysis and quantification as well as handling and high throughput studies. With this application we provide supportive data about the fields on which we focused our optical imaging research so far and what other projects we will perform with the new equipment in the future.
