arthistoricum.net - Specialised Information Service for Art, Photography, Design

Subject Area Art History
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 249103760

In the last funding periods, the specialised information service Art, Photography, Design - arthistoricum.net has continuously developed into an efficient and reliable information infrastructure and service facility with high relevance for the art historical specialist community, which is to be further consolidated and optimised in the next funding period. The focus is on combining collection, reference and access through digital services with the most direct access possible to required literature and sources. In addition, the FID promotes and supports digital research and publication practice through community-based support services. In fulfilling these tasks, the FID is in close exchange with the scientific community, the overall FID system and other information infrastructures, such as the NFDI or the Centre of Competence for the Licensing of Electronic Resources (KfL). In the NFDI4Culture consortium, Heidelberg University Library and SLUB Dresden are co-applicant institutions and thus actively involved in the development of a national research data infrastructure for tangible and intangible cultural assets. Following the achievements of the previous funding periods, in the fifth funding phase the FID will concentrate on the systematic consolidation and optimisation of the value-added services established in the previous project phases according to the particular demands of art studies. In all activities, the specific requirements of scholars and the current lines of development in the subject disciplines are decisive for the needs-based design of the services. The necessary coordination processes with the scientific advisory board, other subject representatives and the FID system as a whole will be systematically continued and supplemented by workshops. The latter will be organised in close cooperation with the FID Network Arts & Culture and NFDI4Culture. Building on this basis, the FID pursues five strategic goals: 1. building up the collection and making subject-relevant media available nationwide, 2. operating the subject portal arthistoricum.net with subject-specific research offers as a high-performance information infrastructure for the provision of services, 3. operating innovative publication services for Open Access publications, 4. operating bibliographic services, subject-related standards data work and content indexing, and 5. activities for networking, scholarly communication and knowledge transfer, as well as contributing to the overall FID system.
