In-situ surface science studies of oxide-water interfaces on well-defined, single-crystalline thin films
(B02)
Subject Area
Physical Chemistry of Molecules, Liquids and Interfaces, Biophysical Chemistry
Term
from 2014 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 234149247
The goal of this project within the CRC proposal is to bridge the so far existing gap between model and realistic studies in the complex field of oxide-water interaction, in particular for magnetite (Fe3O4), silica (SiO2, both amorphous and crystalline) and aluminosilicate surfaces. Thin oxide films as samples and a combination of ultrahigh vacuum-based methodologies and in-situ microscopy will be applied to reveal atomic scale details of the chemical and structural properties of oxide / aqueous solution and oxide / water vapour interfaces.
