Processes with thermo-mechanical impact in precision machining ((1) F05)

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term from 2014 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 223500200

Project Description

In this sub-project contact conditions and mechanically dominated loads for undeformed chip thicknesses in the range of the cutting edge radius as well as the thermo-mechanical loads at larger undeformed chip thicknesses are analyzed. Cutting experiments and characterization of the material modifications as well as modeling and simulation are applied to gain knowledge about the effective deformation and chip formation mechanisms and their resulting modifications. Based on the results of these investigations, several components of the Process Signature for precision machining are derived with particular reference to dynamics of the surface generation and multiple loading of incremental material volumes.
