Project Details
Correlation of major geological units between southern India and Sri Lanka and tectonic models for East Gondwana amalgamation
Applicant
Professor Dr. Alfred Kröner (†)
Subject Area
Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry
Term
from 2013 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 244555577
Field investigations of granulite-facies metasedimentary and granitoid assemblages in the Madurai and Trivandrum Blocks of southern India, followed by zircon dating, petrological characterisation as well as Sm-Nd and Hf-in-zircon isotopic characteristics with the aim to establish the age and petrogenesis of these rocks and compare them with similar associations in Sri Lanka. The overall purpose is to correlate major crustal units between southern India and Sri Lanka for the first time and to reconstruct the amalgamation of East Gondwana.
