Collaboration networks consisting primarily of small businesses are stated to be very effective, because of their high potential of specialization and flexibility. However, the current situation cannot meet the expectations. Pointed reasons are friction losses underlying any collaboration. The goal of this project is to design a set of methods (collaboration compass), which helps to choose, adjust and control the appropriate collaboration model regarding the technical, managerial and social perspective. For this, we will develop a generic collaboration scheme, a catalogue of collaboration strategies and a scheme of underlying collaboration data in order to work out a selection and evaluation method for specific collaboration strategies. The result will be a model-based set of methods, which identifies appropriate collaboration strategies and proposes specific measures of adjustment or controlling. The time and effort of an effective collaboration management can be reduced with the help of this set of methods and collaboration success can be increased.
