Project Details
Synthetic dental composite materials inspired by the hierarchical organization of shark tooth enameloid
Subject Area
Biomaterials
Term
from 2013 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 243494515
Inspired by the hierarchical structure of shark teeth, we will prepare composite materials consisting of fluoroapatite and polymers for biomimetic dental restoration. The materials will be thoroughly characterized in order to elucidate the interplay between the geometrical arrangement of the structural units and the resulting chemical and mechanical properties. The experimental results will be supplemented by in-depth modelling studies to understand the mechanical behavior on a fundamental level.
