The project aims at the collection and documentation of all the early Greek philosophical, historical, critical literary fragments concerning the art theory, as well as the study of the reception of the relevant texts and the comment on them. The extant testimonies will be categorized according to the subjects treated and the character of the primary sources. New translations will be given; the edition will also include critical apparatus and parallels. The commentary will provide both the philological analysis of tradition and the evaluation of ancient poetological thinking from the perspective of modern literary theory. The analytical overview of the poetics discourse in its earliest stage will preface the corpus of texts. Our final cause is the fullest possible edition of the early ancient poetological texts with multilateral commentary and detailed introduction summarizing the development of the poetics in archaic Greece.
