Inflammsomes are key regulators of innate, adaptive and host responses that inspect intracellular compartments for presence of PAMPs and DAMPs. Inflammasome activation was shown to contribute to inflammatory responses, hence we hypothesized that Caspase-1, IL-18, IL-1R, ASC and NLRP3 molecules may play a significant role in autoimmunity and auto-inflammatory tissue injury. To evaluate the functional role of these molecules in the pathogenesis of SLE we are going to generate Caspase-1, IL-18, IL-1R, NLRP3 and ASC-deficient C57BL/6-lpr/lpr mice.
