Project Details
Understanding and manipulating relaxation channels to tailor energy transport (A02)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 217133147
The central topic of this project is to investigate energy conversion, transport and dissipation in nanoscale multilayer and superlattice systems, with a focus on active control. We plan to apply optical pump-probe experiments to pulsed-laser deposited and metalorganic aerosol-deposited films and superlattices. We distinguish three sub-goals: 1) We will investigate in how far manganite films and manganite-based superlattices can be used as externally tunable building blocks for thermal circuitry. 2) We plan to coherently excite spin waves by phonons. 3) We plan to manipulate heat transport by atomic engineering of the phonon band structure.
