Project A02 investigates the chemical diversity and metabolic activities in the Critical Zone in order to understand its functioning. A02 assembled long-term datasets on the molecular composition of Critical Zone waters and derived patterns from these molecular fingerprints that match features identified by other projects. In the third funding period, we will explore Critical Zone functioning by analyzing joint datasets with advanced statistics and bioinformatic tools. We will generalize our findings using sampling site comparison and enhanced structure elucidation.
